July 27, 2001 Went to Hair Replacement Business in Fort Wayne

Summary of Examination:

  1. Hairpiece was taped and glued on. Euro used a hard drying glue that damaged existing real hair when removed.
  2. It was an out-of-box, outdated type hairpiece. Not custom made.
  3. Lumpy around edges due to system being oversized and not properly attached.
  4. A "V" cut was made in the back to resize the hairpiece to fit. Overlapping of edges was visible on back of head.
  5. Hair was too thick on top to match my existing hairstyle.
  6. Clumps of dried glue were visible in the hair. Dried glue was difficult to remove.
  7. Front hairline was not properly cut.

The hairpiece was completely removed. Most of the dried glue was removed, however, some of it could not be removed without causing noticeable damage to hairpiece. The "V" cut in back was sown shut. New tape and a soft bonding solvent were used to reattach the system. It was stated that reattachment would need to be performed monthly and is necessary for all types of systems attached in this manner. The hair replacement unit was an older style not commonly used and incapable of matching the appearance of newer type systems.

  1. "If client is not satisfied after leaving the facility of Euro Development Corporation, the client has sixty days to inform Euro Development, of his or her dissatisfaction and warranty will cover any replacement of hair in our office or by an authorized service affiliate."

What actually occurred: After numerous phone calls defining my dissatisfaction, of which only one was returned, no effort has been made by Euro to try and resolve the issues other than sending a new hairpiece which looked ridiculous and could not be used.

Euro failed to perform the procedure as documented in the advertisements, brochure, and memos. Reference items 1 through 8, and items 18 through 25.

Euro failed to perform the procedure as shown on the WEB site, shown on the video and explained to me by Bill Mailahn. Reference items 1 through 8, and items 18 through 25.

Euro failed to provide professional service during the attachment process. Reference items 6 through 8, and items 18 through 25.

Euro failed to honor the warranty and resolve the issues outlined in this document. Seventeen calls were made to Euro Development Corporation to try and resolve these issues. Only one call was returned. Reference items 9 through 18, and items 26 through 36.

Euro failed to meet their commitments to provide a hair replacement system that was detailed to emulate a natural appearance and provide freedom, self-esteem and confidence.

I was completely deceived and mislead. I am completely dissatisfied with the system and have incurred great embarrassment and self-humiliation. Working in a professional field, first impressions and your overall appearance are critical to success. As a result of my association with Euro Development, I feel my career has been jeopardized at my current place of employment. Several individuals have actually commented directly to me about the noticeable appearance of the hairpiece.

I have tried in good faith to resolve these issues and have been confronted with nothing but failed commitments by Euro personnel. At this time I am requesting full compensation in the amount of 2709.80 for all expenses incurred. Reference the "Cost" section on page 7 of this document listing itemized expenses. This does not include personal humiliation, damage to my career by looking ridiculous, and costs incurred with the Hair Replacement Agency in Fort Wayne.

Failure of Euro Development Corporation to remit this amount to me by August 20, 2001 will result in the initiation of legal action that will also include reimbursement for additional costs and career damage mentioned in the previous paragraph.

Here my situation. In January of 1999 i received a brochure from UMS.After reading it i was kind of exited to go for a consultation so i booked the visit and head down there which took me 3 hrs.The sales rep made me feel like a million dollars, like all my problems and suffering associated with my hair loss were going to disaapear.so i booked the procedure.he charged me $2,000.00 which i have proof. On february 6 1999 i have my procedure done.I was so upset i told them to take it off, they told me i had to keep it on a least a week.On my way back home i couldn't think of nothing else but how bad they did me.I wore a hat for the next week. After that week i went back down there to get it removed,it was the longest week i ever been thru. When they took the wig off which i still have i noticed they screwed my hair up ever more.they totally killed the rest of hair. I wanted hurt them sob.they made me suffer twice as much than before i had it done.

I'm so upset that I am so late. I just found out that the united micro systems lost the lawsuit. I am so very sad that I just found this discussion group when everything is over. Is there anyway to get my money back, you think? I lost $3,200 plus car rental + hotel + 2 days drive + feelings hurt. They put my life in misery from the moment they glue that thing on my head on. The hairpiece that I ordered wasn't even my hair color. It was so thick and hard to comb. That toxic glue itched like hell, and when I scratched it made sound like I was scratching a piece of plastic dust cover for computer. It was so irritating. When the hair underneath grew, That crap was like it was falling off. I had it all the way to the front hairline, so it was very noticeable. It was the biggest embarrassment of my life. I left that $3,200 worth piece of crap on my head for about 3-4 months, then I decided to take it off. That piece of crap is huge, they shove all the hair on top of my head off. After I took it off, I had to get a full wig to hide it. I am a woman, from somewhere half the globe away. When I had it done in '96, I was in a college then. I didn't know that consumer could file a complaint if they are not satisfied, or they don't get the result as the company advertised. If anyone know how I can get my money back, please email me at I really appriciate it.

I am a 30 year-old engineer from the Memphis, TN area. I first saw this "NEW European Technique" through a MAXIM Magazine. I called the number and spoke with Alan Mann (Al). Over a period of about a week, he had me convinced this is the solution for my hair loss problem. I am not a totally bald person, but if it were not for my thinning hair, I would look like I am 24 or so. I was so tired of wearing a ball cap and after listening to him explain that their system is NOT a hairpiece or a toupee, but a LIFETIME solution that requires only 1 or 2 "re-activations" per year, I was sold.
I feel quite foolish now, because I am an exceptionally educated and analytical individual. I have felt scammed before when I used HCM about 5 years ago. I told them that story and they assured me that they are nothing like that organization. I guess I was so desperate, that I chose to believe them.
He also explained it in a manner that led me to believe that they would be attaching many little "filaments" all over my scalp. Never was it implied that it would be a hairpiece glued unfashionably to my head. I booked a flight and went in to have it done.
I got there and was immediately disappointed when I realized that they also led you to believe they were this huge operation located on Main Street in a lusciously appointed building. It is nothing more than a rented office space "behind" that beautiful building in the brochure. I still ignorantly and regretfully continued.
I met with Mr. Pease for my consultation. He showed me a slide presentation, photos, and also (like Al Mann), explained that they are so realistic that "movie stars" use them just for the authentic look of "real" hair and hairlines. I guess I should have been suspect when they made me sign 3 forms that repeated the same thing. I was just blinded by my own desperation.
Anyway, you know the rest of the story, because you went through the same thing. I was told before I left that if my scalp has any kind of reaction, that they would send me a "de-activating" solution and they would have to re-apply the system with a different adhesive. I called them the day after and told them it is already starting to "peel" off. I also told them that their hair was standing about a foot taller than my head and looked ridiculous. They said it would be better after I showered that night. It felt like washing a dirty long haired dog. Only this thing was attached to my head. It was so thick that it literally took like 30 seconds for the water to hit my face when I stepped under my shower head. I shampooed it and put about a half a bottle of conditioner on it. My scalp was "burning". I called on day 2 and asked them to send the de-activator and said this we impossible. I was told by their "customer service-yeah, right-more like B.S. department", that I could not have been told that they would send a de-activator, because there is no such thing. I got quite upset with them and asked them how in the hell I was supposed to get this bear rug off, she said I would have to wait until my hair grew long enough to "release" it, then I'd have to cut it off. I cut it off the next day. My scalp had several "burn" marks on it and here it is, nearly 2 weeks later and my head still hasn't stopped "flaking" where they attached the glue.
Anyway, enough belly aching from me. As for yourself, did you ever find a feasible solution to your hair loss? Your story was touching in the forums. I couldn't imagine being on my senior year trip in Cancun and going through this shit. I've been to Cancun several times and I'd hate to think I wouldn't be able to do the water sports and activities. That was half of the fun. I hope you have made it back, or that you can one day without the worries of a "rug" on your head. I'm sure we both feel quite stupid for letting ourselves get scammed like this. I should have used my brain a little more.
Well, thanks and have a good day.

After I got the approval for the personal loan through my bank I called Michael back and agreed to an appointment but I would not use their travel means because of the cost and that I don't like planes. I decided to rent a car because I did not want the miles on my personal car. The cost of the rental car from Jacksonville to Voorhees, NJ $275.00. I traveled 16 hours to arrive at a hotel somewhere along the way to sleep. The hotel cost was $110.00 the next morning I drove to United Micro Systems, INC.

When I arrived at UMS I told the receptionist I had an appointment with Michael she said he was not in. I was upset that after the phone calls and letters I would not be able to meet the man who could help me change my life. Instead I met with a Robert Pease. After traveling 16 plus hours I was ready to talk to anybody. Robert said he had the procedure done to himself after I examined his head I couldn't believe it. They were right it is a breakthrough procedure. He then brought in a man in his late 40's that also had the procedure done and I examined his head and was amazed at the results. I then watched a video on the procedure and I was ready to have a new head of hair. No longer would I have to wear a ball cap and be afraid of what people would think of a 22 yr. old who was loosing his hair. Robert said there was a 7% discount off the $2,200.00 cost. Lucky for me the bank gave me cash.

I was then taken to a small room where a Technician cleaned my scalp and explained what was going to be done to my head. She said they would have to shave some lines in my existing hair where the new hair would be applied to thicken up the area. She then brought back in some hair to match to my own hair color. She then came back with an assistant Technician to help with the procedure and took my cash and gave me some papers to sign. The assistant then spun my chair around so I would no longer be able to see myself in the mirror and began to shave my head. The next thing I knew two women were standing over me pushing down on my head what I thought was my new ultra fine hair filament that would make my hair line look like a normal 22yr olds. After they got off of me they spun my chair back around and I had hair!

I went to touch my new hair for the first time and the Tech said I was not allowed to touch it for 24 hours. The women then took me to the stylist in another room where my new hair was cut for the finishing touch. I asked the stylist if my hair was suppose to look so thick and high. She said it would come down after the Dermal adhesion set and not to touch it for 24 hrs. That's funny in 24 hrs I would be back in Florida. They then asked me to sign one last paper and sent me out the back door. Confused about what just took place I drove straight back to Jacksonville in the snowy weather constantly looking the mirror at my head in absolute disgust. I was so concerned with my new hair I had to touch it I just couldn't wait 24hrs. I touch my new hair and it felt something like a horses main when my finger when a little deeper I felt something else. I felt what I thought was rope in my new hair. Yep, this was no breakthrough technology this was a wig on my head.

I made It back home in about 14 hours the entire time driving back all I could think about was how I was going to get this hideous thing off my head. I was so exhausted when I arrived home I went straight to bed and was hoping all of this was a bad dream. When I woke it was still there. I showed my parents and they found it hard to believe I paid money to have this wig attached to my head with crazy glue. Angry and upset I called UNITED MICROSYTEMS customer service department, which I guess, does not exist because no one ever returned my calls. I called time and time again and then asked to speak with the Customer Service Department Manager Ann Scaricamazza I would love to have this job she was never there !!!!! I tried to call Michael Fillmyer and he would not return my calls. No body ever called back. By now my scalp was itching and I was in pain emotionally and physically. Being 16hrs from their office made it impossible to go back without missing any more work and the retal car was due back. I missed the day of work when I was scheduled to return. There was no way I could go to work with this thing on my head and the front was starting to peel up. So back went on the ball cap which even looked funny because my new hair was about 2" thicker than before. I called the local emergency room to find out how to remove crazy glue from your head they laughed of course but told me to use Acetone and warm water.

After about 9 hrs of off and on work my parents finally got the thing off my head and what came off with the wig was a lot of my original hair not to mention where they shaved to lay the crazy glue. With my head irritatednd hurting the only thing I could do was buzz off the remaining hair to get the glue totally out of my head. It has been about 8 months since I removed the wig and the hair that had before the wig did not all grow back. After $2,600.00 that I never had to begin with all I was left with was a speeding ticket from the great state of Virginia and the pain I think about every time a make a loan payment.
